Christmass 2003 and Winter Adventure Weekend

All about our Trip
Christmas In Allegany 2002

Andy: "Many of us over the years have embraced out to the winter wonderland of asp for our Christmas weekend were we bring out the decorations and have an old fashioned Christmas. Every year in the past when I would go to the park around Christmas I would see all the cabins decorated and families spending Christmas in asp. Well last fall when my best friend mark and I were in the park, I brought up the fact that it seams like fun seeing the campers with their cozy fires and lights on the cabins. So we reserved Anderson 5 and we did."

Andy: "Mark, John, and myself occupied the cabin. John and I heeded down early cause we got out of work early, as we entered the plain cabin we had it feeling like home in no time. We had everything from lights to tree, the big blow up snowman. As Mark pulled up to the cabin he said "My cat got loose in the basement for an hour, that’s why I'm so late!" We spent all night baking cookies, pies and soup for the park's Christmas party, 'It was about 2am when finished' said Mark."

Mark: "So then after waking up grossly late on Saturday morning, we had to make ready our soup and goodies to take to the party. So we rushed on heating soup.... and didn’t have an ounce to eat. We then went on to go drop off the soup at Camp Allegany, where we received a warm welcome for the gifts we bearded. After snapped up some goodies from Camp Allegany, we went back to the cabin to get the rest of the soup to have at the historical society party/meeting. Indeed, we had a good laugh over the fact that we brought our soup down in our bright orange Home Depot 'Homer' bucket. 'Make sure you put that we cleaned the bucket, cuz if we don't, they will think we used a paint bucket to bring soup down!' Andy inserted. So we opened and tasted the soup, and I noted that the soup was too bland. So over I went to the gift shop in the ad building to buy some salt... to 'liven' up the soup. After which, the soup was enjoyed by all. The meeting concluded and an extraordinary event followed, which has never happened to me before. Out of the bay window in the front parlor in the ad building, 7 deer came right up to the window, with all of us standing there! Now I'm sure they assumed we had food for them, but I was amazed with how brave they were to come right up to the window like that... it was certainly a sight, since I've never been that close to a deer before. So after Andy chit-chatted for a bit with the members of the ASPHS, we left to go down to Camp Allegany to see how things were getting on, since they were looking after the soup for us."

Mark: "We then were invited to sit down for a bit, so we did and took our hot cocoa and buns, and sat around talking to famous figures such as Grace Christy, and Tom LaBlanc, and some others whos names escape me for the moment.

Andy: Saturday Night I cooked up a storm in our cabin and treated everyone to a home cooked meal and after supper we played board games and than drove around the park looking at the cabins that were all light up. Sunday was fun as we embraced out into the winter wonderland and spends the day Cross Country Skied. Sunday night we went to the Red Garter Restaurant for our Traditional Christmas Dinner. It was scrunches. We than decided to try out Seneca Bingo for an after dinner treat and Mark and John both walked away with quite a bit of money while I got left with nothing but - in my wallet! As we packed up it was sad, but we bought an ornament and wrote down the year and made it our "official" ASP Christmas token and said next year we will return for another year of Christmas at ASP!
